Orlando-based Rock Band Soars with Four Total Noms

Fireflight (Nashville, Tenn.) Feb. 20, 2009—Nominations were announced today for the Gospel Music Association’s 40th Annual Dove Awards. Orlando-based rock band, Fireflight sent waves through the industry with its recognition in the prestigious category of Artist of the Year, a huge accomplishment for any artist, but even more for a modern rock band, and first-time Dove nominee. After eight years together as a band, these nominations cap off an overwhelmingly successful 2008, launched by the debut of its hit song, “Unbreakable,” on the NBC network promos for “Bionic Woman.” Over the last 12 months, Fireflight has scored two No.1 singles at Christian Rock radio and was named Taco Bell’s “Best of the Beat” winner by the restaurant’s fan-voted contest.

Fireflight was recognized in three additional categories— Unbreakable, the band’s second major label release, was nominated for Rock/Contemporary Album, and its two chart-topping Rock radio singles were recognized; “Unbreakable,” the project’s title track and first single is up for Rock/Contemporary Song, and “The Hunger” received a nod in the Rock Recorded Song category. As the writers of these two nominated songs, the five individual band members are additionally honored with the opportunity to take home Dove statues for their writer contributions in these categories.

Lead singer Dawn Richardson, reacted to the news from the inside of the band’s mini-bus. She said, “Two words, BLOWN AWAY! We are just so honored to be nominated for the first time, and we are completely floored to have been chosen in 4 categories, especially Artist of the Year! We’re in great company, and really amped to represent ROCK this year in the Artist of the Year category.” She adds, “We thank God, He was our true source of strength for this album.”

John Styll, President of the Gospel Music Association, commented on Fireflight’s outstanding showing in this year’s nominations. “To be included in the Artist of the Year category means they had to be overwhelmingly excellent. It’s

a testament to the band’s hard work this past year. Not only musically, but also connecting with and mobilizing its fans.”

For the first time, fans have an opportunity to vote for the winner of Artist of the Year along with New Artist of the Year. Fan voting, which will be conducted through the Gospel Music Channel website (www.gospelmusicchannel.com) and at www.doveawards.com, will open on Feb. 26, the same day online voting opens for GMA members. The cumulative fan vote, which will continue through the live Dove Awards broadcast, will account for one-third of the total vote in those two categories.

The band’s breakout sophomore album Unbreakable released in March 2008, at No. 10 on Billboard’s Heatseekers chart, following NBC’s feature of the title track in network TV promos for “Bionic Woman.” Along with stellar 5-star reviews, Unbreakable has garnered two No.1 rock singles with “The Hunger,” and the blockbuster title track, which held the top spot at Christian rock radio for 4 weeks. Fireflight was named Gospel Music Channel’s first “Listen Up” Artist of the Month in April 2008. Fireflight’s music has been heard on E! Entertainment’s “Style Network” and in music-video reels at both American Eagle and Journey’s stores across the country. The band recently performed during the “Winter X Games 13” in Aspen, Colo., on the Taco Bell stage. Fireflight is the recent winner of Taco Bell’s inaugural “Feed the Beat” fan-voted promotion.

Fireflight debuted nationally with 2006’s The Healing of Harms, producing two No. 1 rock singles with “You Decide” and “Waiting.” For nearly a decade, the band has remained tireless road warriors on the concert circuit averaging 140 shows a year. We have been given the opportunity to perform at this years Winter X Games in Aspen, CO! We will have a live outdoor concert performance on Friday, January 23rd at 4:30pm on the Taco Bell stage, that is FREE to everyone! We are one of only a few bands performing at the games, which is sponsored by ESPN and ABC Sports. This opportunity has come from our incredible fans who voted us 'Best Of The Beat' at Taco Bells 'Feed The Beat' competition. Alright everyone...it's video blog time!!! Sorry this has taken forever, but i'm learning some new stuff to get this new camera working for us. I have to go get a larger harddrive too, so i've had to keep this one shorter for now. The next one will be longer, i promise. Larry's been out of commission for 3 days now, so i thought i'd give everyone an update on what's going on. Basically, amid whatever actually happened to him, we have to put a new engine inside of Larry. This is going to cost us around $8000. Obviously, that's not cheap for anyone, including us. We were hoping to sell him at the end of the year or soon thereafter, so in order to do that, we're gonna have to go ahead and replace the engine.

I know we've plugged our bus fund a lot, but we really need your help. We know that right now is a hard time for most people, but we figured out if every one of our friends would help us out by donating 2 bucks to the bus fund, we'd not only be able to get larry repaired, but get rid of him and move into the bus we've been working towards for so long. What we're saying is that if you've been holding out because you maybe only have a dollar to spare, please don't feel like that's unappreciated at all. We are so grateful for each and every person that's helped so far at shows, or online, and we don't take any of your generosity for granted. So if you can, please click on the bus fund link on our myspace page...we really would appreciate it.

So there's the scoop. We're working on a possible loaner from our friends at the Church at Azle in Texas to help us get through the rest of this tour. So hopefully we'll see each one of you that was planning on coming to a show this month.

Well everyone, we've played 9 festivals so far this summer, and have 4 more to go, 2 of which are in Europe. So on Tuesday the 12th, we'll be headed overseas to see our friends in Germany and Holland. If you've ever wondered what to do for vacation, i suggest at some point you save up and go to a festival in Europe. They're so much fun, and everyone nice....not to mention they have the best chocolate in the universe, known and unknown.

We're about to take a couple of weeks off to gear up for our FIRST headlining tour ever. It's going to be called the Unbreakable tour and it's coming to a city near you (on the east coast). In fact, you might see this poster around somewhere. :)

Be sure to tune into the Gospel Music Channel this Saturday, June 21st at 9pm EST for the show Front Row Live, featuring Fireflight! It will be a showing of a live performance taped in Atlanta recently.

Orlando-based rock band Fireflight will be featured on PBS network’s “The Arts Connection” program this week. The segment features the eight-year journey of the band from hometown favorite to nationally-acclaimed act. The story airs Thursday, May 22nd at 8 PM (EST) on Orlando’s local PBS station and will re-air on Sunday, May 25 at noon. Fireflight’s new AC radio single “Brand New Day” is up to No. 29 on R&R’s AC-Monitored chart and remains New & Active at AC-Indicator, while gaining on the CRW formats with audience impressions exceeding 2.2 million this week. The new rock single “The Hunger” debuts this week at No. 25 at Christian Rock radio, following up the No. 1 hit “Unbreakable.”

As Fireflight's No. 1 Rock song Unbreakable seizes the CHR chart this week-leaping to No. 4, the band continues to reach out to fans with its web site Iamunbreakable.com. Since the site’s launch on March 13, Iamunbreakable.com has been visited 9,000 times with an average of 300 viewers per day from Fireflight fans in the United States, Canada, Brazil, Germany, Japan, Romania, United Kingdom, Netherlands, Australia and China. Hundreds of people are sharing their stories about what the concept of “Unbreakable” means to them. From depression, suicide, and cutting to eating disorders, divorce, and drugs, Fireflight’s powerful anthem has undoubtedly opened the eyes of audiences to the triumph found through faith. Fireflight lead singer Dawn Richardson has been touched by the outpouring of fans and recently posted a comment saying: “This site is unique in that it gives you an opportunity to really live with not only the imagery of this song, but also the very heart of its narrative. We all have our own story, and so often we can hear it playing in the words and melodies of a song. Orlando-based rock band Fireflight has been named Gospel Music Channel’s first Listen Up artist of the month, adding to the recent flurry of media activity surrounding the launch of the band’s highly-acclaimed sophomore album Unbreakable. Throughout April on GMC, fans will experience 360 degrees of access to Fireflight through customized on-air spots, a world premiere of the anticipated “Unbreakable” music video on March 29, plus online exclusive interviews, performances and special features. Other appearances include a performance on the network’s weekly series “The Kitchen Sink,” and Fireflight will rock its own Front Row Live installment of GMC’s nightly concert series airing early summer.

03.15.08 - We're on our way back from Atlanta, GA from taping a show for Gospel Music Channel and it went great! We had a great time with everyone that braved the crazy tornadoes to come hang out with us, and hopefully all of you that didn't make it will be able to see the Front Row Live when it airs.

03.08.08 - The album has been out for a few days now and so far everything we're hearing is great news! We were number 3 on iTunes for the most downloaded Christian album for the last few days, which is just amazing to us. We feel so blessed that we even get a second album to put out, much less a chance to be in the top 10. Now of course, we'd like to go number one, so any of you who get download happy, go for it :)

As you can see too, the new website is up. It's simple, but will be a source of info for those of you who can't always get on myspace at work, or at home, so you can know when we're playing in YOUR town. So we hope you enjoy it. 03.04.08 - OUR ALBUM DROPS TODAY!!! We're so excited to be launching this website and release a new album today. So far everything we've read about it from reviewers, fans, and everywhere else has been really encouraging, and we daresay that we think you all may really like the record.

The next few months are going to be amazing and there will be a TON of exciting things coming from the fireflight camp, including the new music video, some TV appearances and much more. So keep an eye on here, and our myspace and we'll keep you all updated.
